Concept 40 Floorstanding Speaker Pair

Quick Overview

"We have to say it again: the design and execution of Q Acoustics’ Concept 40 floorstanders is unbelievably good. The gloss finish, the rounded corners, the fact they look equally good with or without their grilles, the stylish chrome/glass outriggers… these speakers look so good they wouldn’t be out of place in a museum of modern art. The even-better news? They sound every bit as good as they look." -- AVHub

Elegantly slim with an unparalleled soundstage, our Concept 40 floorstanding speakers give a sonic performance like no other. This is achieved by incorporating outstanding drive units into a GelcoreTM ultra-low resonance cabinet. This allows the drive units to simply reproduce music, unencumbered by the level of cabinet induced distortions found in conventional designs. The low distortion drive units incorporate powerful oversized magnets to ensure wide dynamics and an ultra-fast transient response. All of this for a beautiful sound.

Full Description

Q Acoustics Concept 40 Speakers
Our Concept 40s are elegantly slim floorstanding loudspeakers that have set the new standard for sonic performance at their price. Like its award-winning little brother, the Concept 20, the Concept 40’s unparalleled soundstage and sheer musicality is achieved by incorporating outstanding drive units into a lacquered, GelcoreTM ultra-low resonance cabinet. This allows the drive units to simply reproduce music, unencumbered by the level of cabinet induced distortions found in conventional designs. The low distortion drive units incorporate powerful oversized magnets to ensure wide dynamics and an ultra-fast transient response.

The visual aspects of the Concept 40s even serve a purpose! The elegant tripod stand allows the speakers to achieve perfect rigidity and floor contact, which further enhances its performance. The aluminum fascia plate is part of an assembly that clamps a butyl rubber sheet to the front panel to reduce cabinet resonance further.

With 90dB sensitivity and a normal impedance of 8 ohms, the Concept 40 is easily driven by any good quality amplifier.

Beautiful soundReview by Willis
I already own the 3050s, which are fine speakers, so I thought the Concept 40s would likely please me very much and they have. The sound is natural, detailed and full range. Bass does not disappoint, and I've found it necessary to partly block the rear ports with the provided foam "bung" to tone it down a bit. Elsewhere in the house I have a pair of Definitive Technology st8040s, supported by an Emotiva subwoofer. I hooked up the Concept 40s to a separate amplifier and positioned them side by side with the Def Techs. They acquitted themselves very well. Both speakers project an open sweet sound, with the Concept 40s yielding very little to the Def Techs in bass performance (even without an external subwoofer) or in the openness of the soundstage while providing a slight bit more definition and crispness. Both speakers are sleek, modern and attractive, with the Concept 40s projecting more elegance and high end engineering. The Concept 40s, however, are also very stable, and hard to tip over. (The rear glass outrigger looks great.) The Concept 40s are serious, beautiful speakers that should appeal to most consumers and to most audiophiles. Get them during the holiday sale. You will make someone very happy. (Posted on 12/1/2018)
Outstanding 1K SpeakersReview by Bill
I went from a pair of Paradigm Reference Studio 60 speakers to the Concept 40 and though they are not completely broken in yet the sound is phenomenal. The clarity, bass, and sound-stage are simply fantastic. I hear things I've never heard from my vinyl and cd collection. I notice very little, if any difference in streaming music as well. The cabinets are solid and very elegant. I only wish I could have afforded the Concept 500, but I am not disappointed with these in the least.

They are driven by a Rotel pre-amp processor and 5-channel 120 Watts per channel Rotel RMB 1075 and match up well with power to spare. I may replace my Paradigm Reference rear speakers with the Concept 20's and one of QAcoustics active subwoofers

I don't know how Q Acoustics does it but they do it well at a very reasonable price. Keep up the great work and I look forward to whatever your next project in electronics will be. Thanks for the great sound. (Posted on 11/9/2018)
Unexpectedly SurprisedReview by Medoras
As someone who is old enough to appreciate good audio equipment and is not influenced by hype and reviews, I have experienced more than my share of speakers over the years.

Having recently upgraded my preamp/amp, I also decided to audition the Concept 40's however, I must admit that I was concerned about the size of the speakers given the large room in which they were being placed and fully expected to have to add a subwoofer to supplement the Concept 40's but quickly found that would not be necessary.

It took me about 30 minutes to realize just how good these speakers are - especially since they replaced speakers that cost five times as much as the Concept 40's.

When it comes to designing and building high-quality speakers, the Q Acoustics team obviously knows what it is doing. (Posted on 8/29/2018)

HiFi lover hereReview by DigiHippie
I just replaced a pair of phase tech pc series speakers (Audiophile speakers from the 90s) in my living room with the Concept 40s. I never thought I could get this kind of quality sound from a pair of floorstanders for around $1k.

If you want full range you will want a sub crossed over around the low 60s.

Having said that, my ears have an orgasm daily now. Wow.
